Audience Feedback

You must get at least 10 people's responses to these questions and translate them into graphs and charts.

  1. What does the title suggest to you?
  2. What genre/type of music does the magazine focus on and how do you know this?
  3. What makes the pages look professional and what stops them from looking professional?
  4. How genuine does the front cover seem?
  5. Does the contents page simply inform or does it also manage to interest you in to reading the rest of the magazine?
  6. Does the article sound like a professional piece of journalism? If not, what bits don't sound right?
  7. Does the articles layout make you want to read it? If not, why not?

Photography

For my artist I used my boyfriend Liam. I chose him as he has some stereotypical aspects you would find in the audience of this genre; mostly the facts that he wears checkered shirts and has longer hair. I chose an outdoor scene to further continue my point that Indie/Folk bands seem to give off a natural image, like the colours of their clothes are quite neutral and natural colours. Also, a number of music videos from bands of this genre are filmed outside, this may also be to continue the theme of nature.

This is the image I have chosen for the front cover:
I planned to make two copies of this image, the first would have been a cut out of Liam. The second image would have been the full image, which I planned to blur. I would have then replaced the cut out of Liam over the blurred image so all the focus would be on him and the background won't distract the reader and take the attention away from him or from the other texts featured on the front cover. I decided not to blur the background because of the audience feedback I received. The blurred image caused people's eyes to hurt from the strain of focussing on the image, so I left the image as it was originally; which the audience I asked preferred.

This is the image I will use for the contents page:
I have chosen to use this image for my contents page as it will fit in nicely with the layout I've already planned. The idea for the contents page is for it to be split into thirds, with the main image covering one third, and the actual contents covering the other two. This image works well as I positioned Liam to the far side of the shot so that I left room for the text. I'm thinking of putting a transparent black box over the remaining two thirds of the image so that the focus will be mainly on the text. I will put a quote from the double page interview below Liam to give readers a snippet of the interview, and will put the title across the top of the page.

This is the image I will use for the double page article:
I have chosen to use this image for the article because it's a mid shot, showing most of Liam and as he is centered, all the focus will be on him and his guitar which is usually the criteria for band images.
